The HVA team was back on the ground this year covering the massive automotive mecca that is the Monterey Auto Week. Check out the recap of some of the sights, sounds and sensational automobiles at this year’s events on the Monterey peninsula.
The week leading up to the Pebble Beach Concours and the Rolex Monterey Motorsport Reunion is surely one of the big musts on any automotive diehard’s bucket list, has a little something for just about everyone with a need for speed, style and great cars. This year’s event saw the HVA team at all the week’s must-see happenings, from the week’s kickoff event at the Carmel-By-The-Sea Concours on the Avenue, straight through to Sunday’s main event on the 18th green, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and a little of everything in between.
One Amazing Porsche
This year saw the debut of the HVA’s “This Car Matters” award presented at the Carmel-By-The-Sea Concours on the Avenue. The inaugural award went to Charles Harris’ 1968 Porsche 911L. This particular Porsche was the first official Porsche of America team car and was a class winner at Daytona in 1969 where it was driven by Herb Wetson.
At the Quail Motorsports Gathering, held Friday at the Quail Lodge in Carmel, the FIVA/HVA Preservation Award went to Donald Osborne and Frank Garofolo’s unrestored 1967 Simca 1000 Bertone Coupe.
More Preservation Award Winners
Sunday’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance saw the presentation of a Pre- and Post- FIVA/HVA Preservation Award by HVA President Mark Gessler, Hagerty CEO McKeel Hagerty, and current FIVA President Horst Brüning to an unrestored, untouched 1935 Voisin Clairière Berline owned by Bill and Linda Pope of Paradise Valley, Arizona, and a 1964 Lamborghini 350 GT Touring Coupé owned by Georg Gebhard of Grossefehn, Germany.
In addition to filming several vehicles for future installments of our THIS CAR MATTERS video series at Pebble Beach, the HVA team was on hand at Laguna Seca for the Monterey Motorsports Reunion, which celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Corvette, and the Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance, featuring a number of cars seen later in the week at the Concours cruising down California’s scenic Highway 1 from Pebble Beach to Big Sur and back.
