Events Recap

With the weather finally beginning to take a turn for the worse and the last vestiges of summer gone for yet another year, fall firmly made its presence known across much of the country. Because of this, October is generally a very slow month for car shows (Hershey notwithstanding, of course). Check out the pair of cars and motorcycle below, each of which was presented with an award by the HVA.

Barber Vintage Festival

First up was the Barber Vintage Festival held at the Barber Museum in Birmingham, AL. Billed as “the world’s largest motorcycle museum,” the Barber is home to an incredible collection of motorcycles from every era. Each fall, hundreds of motorcycles and motorcycle enthusiasts gather for the annual Barber Vintage Festival on the grounds of the museum. Taking home our THIS BIKE MATTERS Award was this 1957 Harley Davidson KR.

IMPA Test Days

Mazda 1990 Miata John Matras HVA IMPA 2015B

Up north, the Monticello Motor Club in Monticello, NY again played host to the annual IMPA Test Days. Here, IMPA members (that’s the International Motor Press Association for those who don’t know) can try out a host of unique vehicles within a number of different venues. This year’s THIS CAR MATTERS Award was presented to this 1990 Mazda Miata.

Edison Concours d’Elegance

Finally, the Edison Concours d’Elegance at Llewellyn Park, former home of the concours’ namesake Thomas Alva Edison, once again featured a stunning array of vehicles gathered on the grounds. And what better setting than to have a celebrity vehicle take home a THIS CAR MATTERS Award? This General Motors Truck Company 1924 Model D-1 Yellow Cab was used in the 1946 classic It’s A Wonderful Life, starring Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed. The car figured prominently in the film, used by Ernie the cab driver in a number of scenes.
