With the weather hinting at summer and roads once again beckoning motorists, May often serves as the official start of the summer car show season. Take a look at some of last month’s highlights from events attended by the Historic Vehicle Association.
The Quail Motorcycle Gathering
Out in California on the Monterey Peninsula, this year’s Quail Motorcycle Gathering saw this amazing 1910 Pierce Four take home the HVA Preservation Award.
Greystone Mansion Concours d’Elegance
This year marked the 7th edition of the Greystone Mansion Concours d’Elegance in Beverly Hills, CA. Among the dozens of spectacular cars on display were this 1967 Alfa Romeo GTA/P 1600 Corsa owned by Brandon Adrian which took home the HVA/FIVA Preservation Award while this 1961 Ferrari 250 SWB Berlinetta owned by Mark Haddawy was awarded our THIS CAR MATTERS Award.

And finally, May saw the historic 100th running of the Indianapolis 500. Thousands of race fans crowded in to Speedway, IN, to take in this historic event. Prior to the start of the race—won by rookie driver Alexander Rossi—the HVA presented the most recent addition to the National Historic Vehicle Register: the Marmon Wasp, winner of the very first Indy 500. Following this distinction, four-time Indy 500 winner Al Unser got behind the wheel to take the car once more around the Brickyard for a celebratory parade lap.
