For decades, immaculately restored vehicles have wowed spectators at many concours around the world. But more and more, the vehicles that seem to most impress judges and the crowd are the ones that have been largely left alone.
No vehicle is completely “original.” But some cars do come captivatingly close. Many events are now embracing these amazing survivors and the stories they have to tell. Much of the encouragement to recognize cars that haven’t been stripped and plated and primped has come from the HVA and FIVA, organizations that recognize the need to preserve vehicles just as they were built. The FIVA Award, now presented at many of the country’s most important concours, was designed to both celebrate and acknowledge these one-of-a-kind vehicles.
