At first glance, this battered red jeep appears to be little more than an old vehicle showing its age and long since having served its primary function. But once you start to learn the details behind the jeep—its significance, its owner and the special place it held in his life—you begin to gain a far greater appreciation for what you are seeing. For nearly 30 years, this 1962 Willys ‘Jeep’ CJ-6 served as Ronald Reagan’s automotive workhorse, much of the time on the grounds of his beloved Rancho del Cielo. Watch the accompanying film to learn more about this special jeep, the man who owned it, the land he loved and the freedom it afforded Reagan during his time as California’s governor and President of the United States.
For its THIS CAR MATTERS movement, the Historic Vehicle Association is asking people to share their stories about special vehicles — ones that helped to shape their lives and communities, our history and our heritage.
Check out the video below and if you haven’t yet shared your story, head on over to the HVA’s THIS CAR MATTERS page to find out how you can participate.
