May’s HVA & FIVA Award Winners

With car show season officially upon us, we thought we’d take a look at some of the great cars that won either the HVA’s THIS CAR MATTERS Award or the FIVA Preservation Award. Read on to learn more about these great cars and for a list of where the HVA is headed this month.

Pinehurst Concours d'Elegance

1903 Marr Auto Car

1954 Alfa Romeo 1900 SS Zagato

At this year’s Pinehurst Concours in Pinehurst, North Carolina, great cars gathered for this second annual event. Among them, this 1903 Marr Auto Car owned by Mr. W. Barton Close and this 1954 Alfa Romeo 1900 SS Zagato owned by Mr. Corrado LoPresto, winners of the THIS CAR MATTERS and FIVA Preservation Award, respectively.

The Quail Motorcycle Gathering

1972 Ducati Imola

Near Monterey, in Carmel Valley near Monterey, the Quail hosted its Quail Motorcycle Gathering and honored pre- and post-war motorcycles as part of its Evolution of the Motorcycle feature. The FIVA Preservation Award was given to this 1972 Ducati Imola owned by John L. Stein.

Greystone Mansion Concours d'Elegance

1958 Alfa Romeo Giuletta Veloce Spider

1932 Packard 903 Sport Phaeton

Further down the coast, this year’s Greystone Mansion Concours d’Elegance in Beverly Hills, California, featured a dazzling array of automotive stars. Among those gathered were a 1958 Alfa Romeo Giuletta Veloce Spider, owned by Brandon Adrian, and a 1932 Packard 903 Sport Phaeton owned by Joyce and Clifford Gooding, winners of the FIVA Preservation Award and THIS CAR MATTERS Award, respectively.

Saratoga Auto Museum Spring Invitational and Auto Show

1926 Franklin 11A Sport Runabout

Back east, the Saratoga Auto Museum hosted its annual Spring Invitational and Auto Show. Among the many great cars gathered on the lawn was this 1926 Franklin 11A Sport Runabout, owned by Ken Gypson. An unrestored vehicle, the Franklin was the winner of this year’s FIVA Preservation Award. 

Greenwich Concours d'Elegance

1949 Healy Silverstone D#3 Roadster

Finally, over the last weekend in May, Greenwich, Connecticut, played host to the Greenwich Concours. Taking home the THIS CAR MATTERS Award was Rich Myers for his 1949 Healy Silverstone D#3 Roadster.
