THIS CAR MATTERS: 1911 Franklin Model D

September 10, 2013

Get the story on Ted Davis’s unrestored 1911 Franklin Model D race car. The HVA caught up with Davis and his amazing car at the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

For its THIS CAR MATTERS movement, the Historic Vehicle Association is asking people to share their stories about special vehicles -- ones that helped to shape their lives and communities, and our history and heritage. Check out the videos below, and if you haven't yet shared your story, head on over to the THIS CAR MATTERS page on our website to find out how you can participate.

  1. Hans Middelberg Greenwich, CT

Early Development: 1914 Buick Roadster, exposed rockers, electric starter/generator integrated unit. Early oil pump with splash distribution, clutch, gearbox, driveshaft and rear axle with differential gears. Pretty much the basic design we are driving now.

  2. Bill Cawley MA

Remove the background noise! Let us hear the motor running and the actual background sounds! We are watching this for the car and your knowledge of it. This is a classroom please treat it as one.
