The Porsche 911, one of the most successful sports cars ever, celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. More than 820,000 911s have been built since the car company’s most famous creation debuted in Frankfurt at the IAA International Motor Show in September 1963. This month, the Historic Vehicle Association’s THIS CAR MATTERS video series features three unique and personal 911 stories.
Prototype 911—Don Meluzio
1963 Porsche 911
Don Meluzio’s 1963 Porsche is a rare 911 prototype, showcasing a variety of unique features that never made it to production.
Unrestored Early 911—Robert Ingram
1965 Porsche 911
Robert Ingram's Porsche, one of the first 911s sold in the United States, is an excellent well-preserved example of this iconic vehicle's timeless styling.
All-Original 911—Patrick Collins
1973 Porsche 911
Patrick Collins has a passion for Porsches, and this unrestored, low-mileage vehicle is a great example of what makes these cars exceptional.
Hard to believe, the 911 has been out for 50 years? Why, it seems like just yesterday, that I first heard about it. Time flies!
