In the spirit of Memorial Day, this month’s mystery car is all military.
Thank you to everyone who commented on the vehicle photo on the HVA website and the HVA's Facebook page.
The vehicle in the photo is a WWII Dodge WC-62 and some may also call it a G-507 Dodge 6x6.
When the Army increased the size of its rifle squad from eight men to 12 men, a squad could no longer be carried in the 3/4-ton trucks. At the direction of Major General Courtney Hodges, Chief of Infantry, the design of the G-502 series trucks was modified to create a 48-inch-longer 6x6 vehicle. Most of the mechanical and some of the sheet metal parts were the same as those used in the 3/4-ton series. However, the transfer was dual ratio in the 1 1/2-ton version, while a single-speed unit was used on the 3/4-ton trucks. For more information on this vehicle, click here.
And the winner of the contest – Hugh Halladay from Scottsdale, AZ!
For guessing correctly Hugh Halladay will receive a free HVA ballcap. The same cap is available here, in the online store.

Sure looks like a WC-63, from WWII. 6 wheel drive mini deuce and a half. Some I've seen had a .50 cal ring mount just behind the cab.

The vehicle is a WC-62 Dodge 1-1/2 ton Weapon Carrier. The era is World War Two. It is essentially, a longer version of the 3/4 ton Weapon Carrier. It is 6-wheel drive with a low gearing, making it ideal for the less than ideal driving conditions in Northern Europe.

This looks like a Dodge WC62 3/4 ton truck:based on the WC51 ( known to GIs as a 3/4 Ton 'weapons carrier') but stretched to accommodate a second rear axle , upping the rating to 1 1/2 ton. The trucks saw active service throughout WWII, and some survived to serve in Korea.
Jerry Gardner Tyler, TX
This is the 1 1/2 ton Dodge truck WC-62 trooper carrier (WC stood for weapons carrier). They were used in many rolls. WC-63 is the same truck but with a winch on the front bumper. The Dodge base vehicle was used for many vehicles; command car, ambulances, weapons carrier, single axle and dual axle personel carrier, etc....... This is a very popular but difficult to find historic military vehicle.

When I entered the U S army in 1949 we had a few of these that were one and half ton Dodge trucks setup with bench seats in the back, the length of each side that folded down to transport personal or folded up to transport cargo. So that would mean they were first used during WW 2 and carried over into the Korean conflict. During early1951 there was a gradual change over to newly designed Vehicles.

This is a WC 62 and it's a 1943 model. It's a 1 1/2 ton troop carrier and it's a 1943 because it has the all steel bed. In 1944 they changed the bed to partial wood. If it had a winch it would have been a WC 63.
Lynn Nordby Bainbridge Island WA

A friend in my church collects WWII vehicles. He's got a Sherman Tank, a Half track with working guns, an troop truck and two jeeps. He says it's a 1942 Doge WC55. So, that's my final answer- 1942 Dodge WC55.
Gene Greenacre Alanson, Mi.
Dodge WC-62, 1 1/2 ton Weapons Carrier, first built in 41 for WW2. Same as the WW-63, but it has no winch. I think we still had a few of these setting in our motor pool in Germany in the early 70's.

Dodge WC-62, commissioned in 1942, 1.5 ton weapons carrier, used heavily in WW2, and usually had a 50 cal. machine gun mounted in back, 1 super bad machine! Awesome!
