Youth Judges Name Their Top Picks at Hilton Head

December 20, 2010

Hagerty’s Operation Ignite! youth judging program proved a big hit at this year’s Hilton Head Island Concours d'Elegance & Motoring Festival.

Hagerty Insurance believes that furthering the collector hobby means giving young people the opportunity to learn first hand about world-class automobiles.

The world’s best was on hand November 6th at the Car Club Jamboree of the Hilton Head Concours d’Elegance where 16 young judges ranging in age from 9 to 17 years old were taught the basics of judging collector cars, met with select exhibitors, and enjoyed VIP treatment along with a personal guided tour of the concours by Wayne Carini, host of Discovery HD Theatre’s Chasing Classic Cars.

Hagerty’s Operation Ignite! made the youth event possible together with Motoring Festival Partner, Hargray Communications.

Five incredible vehicles were pre-selected for the event. Youth judges first interacted with vehicle owners to learn about the history of each vehicle then each was scored on exterior, interior, details, electrical, and engine compartment. Judges then participated in the awards ceremony by helping present trophies to their winning place finishers:

  • 1st place: 1988 Lamborghini Countach, owned by Vail Frost of Duluth, GA
  • 2nd place: 2002 Ferrari 360 Spider F1 owned by Mario Grande of Hilton Head, SC
  • 3rd place: 1971 Ford Boss 351 Mustang owned by Steve Collins of Jacksonville, FL
